Car accident in North Carolina send 2 to hospital

A single-car crash on the afternoon of Jan. 3 has left two people in the hospital, according to state authorities. North Carolina Highway Patrol has confirmed the car accident that injured two people, one seriously. So far, they have not chosen to file charges against the driver involved, as their investigation is still underway at this time.

According to the police report, the vehicle carrying a male driver and a female passenger (both unidentified) was headed north on Interstate 85 when their vehicle abruptly left the road, crashing into a wooded area. AirCare was dispatched to collect the injured victims, and emergency crews worked to close the highway to facilitate the landing. The female passenger was transported with non life-threatening injuries to a local medical facility.

The male driver, on the other hand, sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was airlifted to a local hospital, where it was discovered the man had somehow lost consciousness prior to the crash. The reason for this has not been determined, but police intend to interview both parties at the hospital to gain some clarity as to what may have transpired. Police are waiting to publicly identify both parties until next of kin can be notified.

car accident can happen for a variety of reasons, from driver error to intoxication to a medical emergency. When a driver loses consciousness, it is important to determine the cause. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, if the driver is found materially responsible for the accident, his passenger could sue for personal injury in a civil court, even if no criminal charges are filed by North Carolina authorities.
