Car accident in North Carolina kills 1

A catastrophic single-vehicle accident has claimed one life and sent two other people to the hospital, according to local news sources. The North Carolina Highway Patrol has confirmed the death of the driver in the single-car accident, and has said two other people were hurt. An investigation is ongoing, but criminal charges will not be filed given the tragic death of the driver.

According to the report, sometime on the night of April 23, a 22-year-old man was driving a sports car westbound on Highway 33 near Aurora when the accident happened. For reasons that have not yet been determined by law enforcement or accident reconstruction teams, the man's vehicle crossed the center line before leaving the road and flipping over into a ditch. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medical personnel.

Two passengers, neither of whom have been identified by police at this time, were injured. The severity of their injuries was not included in the report, but they were both transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their current conditions are unknown, and police have likely reached out to next-of-kin for notification of the driver's death.

If the deceased driver is found to have been responsible for the car accident that injured his two passengers, North Carolina law affords those passengers certain legal recourse. They are both entitled to file personal injury lawsuits against the man's estate and anyone else with ownership interest in the vehicle involved in the crash. These suits are overseen by a state civil court, and in order for damages to be awarded to the injured parties, proof of the driver's negligence must be presented.
